Ilfracombe is a seaside resort on the north coast of Devon, England with a small harbour, surrounded by cliffs. An occasional ferry service runs from Ilfracombe to Lundy Island, Swansea and Penarth in Cardiff. Ilfracombe's main landmark is the Landmark Theatre, a theatre of unusual conical design. The economy of Ilfracombe is largely based on tourism. Each year, the residents of Ilfracombe celebrate their heritage by dressing up in traditional Victorian attire and taking part in activities associated with the Victorian era. Known as 'Victorian Week' this period is enjoyable for residents and tourists, and aids the local economy. During the summer months, Ilfracombe has an influx of foreign students who study English at the Channel School. During this time the town hosts the national youth arts festival, adding further to the cosmopolitan atmosphere.
