Braunton is about 4 miles from Barnstaple and believed to be the largest village in England. It had a population of around 7500 in the 2001 census. Braunton is also just 12km from Ilfracombe. The South West Coast Path National Trail goes past the village as does the Tarka Trail. You can take this trail and walk along the fantastic Devon coastline. Not far away in Braunton Burrows are the marshes which are now classed as a biosphere reserve and have world importance. These areas are protected due to their natural outstanding beauty. Braunton has also become popular over the years with surfers especially at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. There are a number of caravan and campsites in the area as well as self catering chalets and B&B?s. Each year Braunton holds a local carnival around the end of May which is very popular. A detached property for sale in Braunton would fetch around ?435k back in Dec 2007 and a terraced house averaged ?190k. These prices are higher than the national average. Property prices rose in Braunton during 2007 with a number of properties priced at over half a million pounds.
