The small village of Lynmouth is situated in the Exmoor National Park in Devon and near the border of Exmoor. It is often described as "where Exmoor meets the sea" and in the Victorian times referred to as "little Switzerland". It lies where the River West Lyn and River East Lyn merge together which is in a 700ft gorge below the town of Lynton. The villages are connected via the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway which has been in operation since about the 1890?s. It is a water powered funicular and 263m in length which works on a counter balance system so as one carriage rises the other carriage ascends. Both Lynmouth and Lynton are twin towns with Benouville in France. 20 kms along the coast from Lynmouth is the resort town of Ilfracombe and further on is the town of Woolacombe. Property for sale in Lynmouth is above the national average and in February 2008 a three bedroom house was around ?260k and an apartment in Lynmouth was around ?200k.
