The Kingsbury Estuary in Devon is the location of the coastal town of Salcombe. Originally the town was known as a fishing port but now it has a large yachting presence. Due to its location on the estuary the town had a thriving ship building, crabbing and a sailing port industry. There is a local ferry service across to the tourist town of Kingsbridge and to East Portlemouth and a sea tractor that takes its passengers across to nearby South Sands. Salcombe is situated in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty region and is a popular seaside resort. It has a number of good sandy beaches, coves and bays to explore. Further along the coast is the town of Paignton and about 30km inland is the small town of Ivybridge. Property price in Salcombe are amongst the highest in the country outside of London. Many are valued at over one million pounds especially if they are on the estuary or sea facing. Salcombe is also a popular location to have a second home and renting a property in the peak season can be as much as ?7k per week.
