The village of Bampton is on the River Batherm in Devon, which is a tributary of the River Exe. The nearby town of Tiverton is about 10km away, Taunton is roughly 29km and the city of Exeter is around 32km. Bampton has around 100 listed buildings which include a Grade 1 listed church that has a tower dating as far back as the 13th century. The inn at the edge of Bampton dates back to around 1500 and was originally a farmhouse. Bampton fair takes place every October on the last Thursday of the month. The fair has a street market, craft stores, entertainment and a livestock market which is very popular. It is one of the oldest Charter Fairs in the country. Bampton is also well renowned for its floral displays and has won the National Britain in Bloom competition six times.
