Steeped in local history, this detached Villa residence, formerly known as "Moneta House" (sometimes referred to as Tower House) was built in 1865 to the design of R C Sutton, of Nottingham. This is a large Villa built of red and yellow brick ornamented with stone and marble, complete with a prominent tower surmounted by ironwork.
Four storeys rise above the sandstone steps of an exposed basement, while the tower rests upon arched marble columns supporting an open porch. However, it is the interior quirky nick-knacks and hideaways that impress most. Ceiling ventilators and decorative roses adorn spacious rooms. Wrought-iron fretted banister supports lure the eye as the stairs climb to the turreted simulated ramparts.
The property has undergone significant improvements in recent years. These improvements have included the installation of gas central heating, a full replacement of all the sash windows throughout, replacement of the roof and external pointing. Internally the original features of the property have undergone restoration, including improvement work to the noble staircase.
Rarely does a property of this size and historical significance become available in the city and an internal inspection is imperative to fully appreciate the character and potential that this home offers to potential purchasers.
