In the southeast of Devon is the town of Beer. The name Beer is from an old word which means woodland, this is due to the forest that surrounds the town. Beer has a history rich in lace, fishing and smuggling. There are many coves and caves nearby which where used for smuggling and are now a tourist attraction. There is a massive man made cave called the Beer Quarry Caves which are the result of quarrying Beer stone. Beer stone has been used on around 24 cathedrals in the UK and has a gentle yellow hue to it.
Fishing is still popular in the town and the boats are winced up the beach as Beer has no harbour. The beach is pebbly and difficult to walk on so there are rubber mats laid to help visitors gain access to the sea.
