The Devon sea side resort of Ilfracombe is set in a small harbour and has a backdrop of high cliffs. There is a local ferry service which runs from Ilfracombe to Lundy Island, Swansea and Penarth. Ilfracombe is around 12km from Braunton, 94 km from Paignton and 67 km from Exeter, both on the southern Devon coast.
Tourism plays a big part to the town and each year the residents celebrate their heritage by dressing in traditional costume from the Victorian era. This is known as Victorian week and there are various activities over the week in this theme.
During the summer the town has many foreign students who study English at the nearby Channel School. This is also the season Ilfracombe hosts its youth arts festival. There are a number of other festivals during the year such as Honiton Festival which is celebrated in May. There is also a carnival held each year that has floats with impressive lights and colour. The carnival ends has a grand procession at the end of the two weeks and attracts many tourists and locals.
