The market town of Tavistock in Devon is located on the River Tavy. It had a population of around 11k at the last census of which most residents where over 40 years of age.

Sir Francis Drake was born in the town in around 1540 and there is a blue plaque erected on the house where it was thought he was born.

The market which still takes place today was granted to Tavistock by Royal Charter back in 1105 along with a three day fair which celebrates Saint Rumon this is better known as Goosey Fair. Other local events include the two day food festival held in July each year and in August there is the two day carnival and balloon festival.

Tavistock is around 24km from Plymouth and under 35km from Okehampton.
