Liverpool is a city in Merseyside, to the east of the River Mersey looking across to the Wirral, with a population of around 450,000. It is also one of England’s core cities. 2007 saw Liverpool celebrate it Bicentenary, having been officially recognised by King John in 1207. In 2008 Liverpool is European Capital of Culture, having beat of stiff competition from 5 other citys: Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Newcastle-Gateshead and Oxford.

Liverpool is situated around 12 miles to the west of St Helens, 9 miles from Prescot and Whiston and 11 miles from Rainford.

Liverpool was once one of the most important ports in the country, if not the world. Though this importance has long since gone the docks and riverside are now the scene of massive urban regeneration. Alongside the famous Albert Dock and the new stadium are numerous residential apartment developments that are transforming the look and feel of the city.

Property prices in Liverpool vary widely depending on the area. The south of the city is generally recognised as being more expensive though areas like Blundellsands in the north can be very expensive. In November 2007 there were over 17,000 properties for sale in Liverpool with an average asking price of about Ł181,000. About 75% of this property was under Ł200,000 though there were 17 properties on sale for more than Ł1,000,000. Three bedroom semi-detached properties seem to be the most popular.
