Property for sale in York, North Yorkshire.

The historic city of York is in North Yorkshire and close to the Rivers Foss and Ouse. At the last census in 2001 York had over 180k residents. Situated in the Vale of York and bordered by the Pennines, Wolds and North York Moors it’s a particularly flat landscape. Due to this the area often gets flooded in heavy rain from the nearby Rivers. Some of the surrounding areas of York are thought too risky to develop due to the flooding. York has a flood defence system which includes a liftable barrier which is placed where the two Rivers meet. Winter 2000 saw the worst floods for over 350 years.

York is a historic city and a major tourist attraction for visitors from the UK and abroad. Places of interest include York Castle Museum, National Railway Museum and York Minster. The latter is the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. York is surrounded by the medieval walls which are about 3 miles long.

Local villages include Bootham, Cawood, Deighton, Fishergate, Holgate, Rawcliffe, Stamford Bridge and Woodthorpe.
