Minehead is on the coast of west Somerset and twinned with Saint-Berthevin in France. Minehead is near to Exmoor National Park and at the foot of North Hill. In the 2004 census the population was around 11k. The South West Coast Path National Trail starts in Minehead, this is the longest countryside walking trail.

Minehead is about 5 miles from Allerford, 22 miles from Bridgwater and 34 miles from Chard.

Minehead has been a popular seaside resort since the mid 1800s and the nearby cliffs can often expose fossils.

In 1990 there was severe flooding to the town which resulted in Minehead beach being washed away. A new sea wall 1.1 miles long was constructed and 320k tons of sand imported to make a new beach.
