Tesco Enters the UK Property Market
Tesco has announced that it is to launch a new service, Tesco Property Market, offering home owners the opportunity to advertise their property for sale for a one-off fee of £199.
It is reported that a number of the major UK property portals have been approached with a view to them providing content for the new Tesco website. However, there are conflicting reports as to how theses portals have responded with some suggesting that at least two have agreed to send their portfolios to the Tesco website. If true, this is sure to anger the estate agents who pay these portals to market their properties, with many seeing this as a direct conflict of interest.
Tesco has a strong brand but it remains to be seen how many people feel that alone is reason enough for them to sell their main investment privately rather than entrust the sale to an experienced estate agent.
