Property in Scotland
Montrose in Scotland is believed to have had the biggest rise in property prices in 2007. It is understood the average price rose by 39% from £123k to just over £172k, even affluent places such as Henley-on-Thames and Southwark in London only went up by around 26%.
A one bed flat bought a few years ago for £4k is now valued at around £80k. Local estate agents think the reasons behind these large increases are people are being priced out of nearby areas such as Aberdeen and Dundee which are only 30 miles away. Montrose property prices are still relatively cheaper than the surrounding towns and anyone selling may make a good profit but would then find it difficult to afford anywhere else to live.
