Properties that are for sale at auction still need to have a HIP in place but a Home Condition Report is not obligatory. You may want to consider having a survey done first, this may cost up to £500 and you could be outbid but it will give you peace of mind that you are bidding on a worthwhile property. Some properties for sale at auction may have structural damage so if possible also arrange a viewing trip.

If you have the winning bid the property becomes yours and you will be expected to pay a deposit, usually 10% on the day. Take ID and your solicitor’s details with you, and be ready to complete in around a month.
