Moving Home
The Office of National Statistics has researched into how far homeowners travel when they move home.
What they discovered was that in the ten years prior to 2006 just over 1 million people that lived in the South West left the area. This did not leave a population dent though as around 1.4 million moved in from other parts of the country. This was the largest regional rise in the UK at 6%. This figure did not include the 29 thousand that moved in from overseas though.
People tend to move further afield due to work reasons and the average commute in the UK is around 30 minutes.
